Camera Repair
I have a Canon PowerShot A540. This is a great camera but it and from what I can tell all the models in the series have some significant problems with the shutter door sticking. This is probably due to dirt and probably some hits to the two plastic pieces that cover the shutter. My previous PowerShot had this problem and my current A540 developed the issue about a week ago. I had researched...
Shopping Cows
Last night I decided it might wake me up to take a short drive. I had noticed that CompUSA was going to open and 9pm until midnight for early shopping. I saw a USB drive I might pick up if the crowd wasn’t too bad. I guess I was just foolish when I thought that not many people would bother to trek out on Thanksgiving night. The line at 8:58 when I arrived was all the way down the front of...

One reason medical insurance is so high
I’m sure you have all seen it. Those medical supplies that seem to cost way too much. I think if we would stop these obvious over charges it might help make health costs more affordable. I’ve had a number of knee surgeries over the past year and each time they wrap my knee with those blue re-usable ice packs like you might use in a cooler. They come in a neat foam and Velcro wrap...

Ruby Hype
Recently a friend sent me a link to this article on InfoQ Why would a .NET Programmer Learn Ruby on Rails? We rant a lot on our list and mine was particularly long. He suggested I publish it so here it is. I think the points in this article show a lack of understanding about the architecture and features of .NET. Here are the points from the article: Do not compile. So what. How does this help...

HD-DVD a dud?
Last night I took time to watch my new XBOX 360 HD-DVD. Honestly I can say I am not that impressed. The product itself is fine and operates great. However, the enhanced resolution of HD-DVD isn’t all that spectacular. I have the King Kong DVD and the HD version that came with the drive. I had both DVDs running so that I could switch back and forth between the two. While there is...

XBOX 360 HD DVD
I picked up the Xbox 360 HD DVD drive Sunday. It was easy to get at a local Circuit City. I just dropped in and picked one up. The picture is great. Just to get a better idea I’m going to watch the King Kong original DVD and switch to the HD-DVD just see the differences a little more “up close”. If you have an XBOX 360 this is a great way to get an HD-DVD player. It...
Helping Pimp Profilactic
Some friends of mine have started an interesting new site. Something to help you with all those profiles. In their words “to help you keep track of all of the things you do online at sites like My Space, Flickr, YouTube, Facebook, Digg, del.icio.us, Blogger, Vimeo, Zooomr and just about any other site that provides you with a URL or an RSS feed.” Check out Profilactic. Serious...
Can I ever learn to blog?
Well after an extremely long time off of blogging I’m going to try it again. Why? Well probably because the concept has always seemed like a great idea to me. Creation of content, sharing of ideas etc. The problem has always been life. I don’t know how the active bloggers do it. I have so many things going on that the creation of a blog entry just always slips through. This time...
